Leaves, petals and stamen
Palimpsests under foot
Cement over words whose
Return pushes up cracks.
Leaves, petals and stamen
Down on knees she traces
The texture of flowers
That emerge to spite her.
Leaves, petals and stamen
A flower’s spite persists
Love does more than linger
Through palimpsest rifts.
Leaves, petals and stamen
Little veins require
Oxygen in our blood
Lips kiss of memories.
Leaves, petals and stamen
A child wants this kiss
Knowing it will persist
Inside his palimpsests.
