I Wake Screaming
Beep beep beep punctuates
the evening rituals –
story, snack, teeth, songs –
the red light releases
my security
to someone, somewhere else.
In the comfort of bed
I read Mary Oliver
this poetry with the fewest
human beings offers wisdom
to help me through the night.
Sleep comes easier
these days when I
recognize my breath.
Sleep came.
Unusual sounds alert me,
but no alarms, strange.
A creak under a hard soul
just a bit louder than
the sweet pitter patter
under a boy with a racing heart.
His faceless stare
appears in the threshold.
His light shines fully now,
fully on me…

Yes, they really do! I’m glad you thought of it… so intriguing that there are all these years between, but of course, I hate the thought of you suffering nightmares. Will be hoping you have A LOT more of the laughing ones 😁🤡🚫
I’m doing okay, thanks. I guess, when I think about it, I’ve been having a lot of dreams too 🤔
I think I’ve been too busy that I haven’t had much of a chance to properly digest so many things that have happened in my life lately, that I’ve been dreaming some very interesting things that go way back. Uh oh, you’ve got me thinking Steve lol.
