‘So a tree grows in rings’, a Level UP Challenge poem by Stephen

So a tree grows in rings, each wrapping
the passed vessels with new to carry up
the minerals from dirt decayed at its feet
to leaves sprung forth from branches
patiently barren but wise. It knows it is
Alive. It knows the sun in ways we will
never. We are but scarlet rosebuds
to the towering wood grown in rings
encircling the past, grateful for our moment
of life — it speaks slow words we cannot hear
“Savor this, take it all in, for when it ends
the richness of your bloom will feed the height
of my living and so, too, the birds will see
a little closer, the Sun.”
A Level UP response to Go Dog Go Tuesday Writing Challenge: scarlet rosebud and Eugi’s Weekly Prompt: Alive.

Gorgeous words, Stephen. I love the sense of the overall smallness of us in the big picture of life. There is something comforting in that knowledge. 😊
