Does Anybody Remember Laughter?, a Prompt response by S Francis

In response to Eugi’s Weekly Prompt, a little inspiration from Robert Plant: Eugi’s Causerie AND SO IT GOES…
— AND —
The Tuesday Writing Prompt from Go Dog Go Cafe!
He sang to the crowd
That came for the stairway.
Heaven seemed not too far away,
So he raised his voice. Elevated and loud,
It seemed to keep those first steps at bay.
“We need to laugh more” he thought.
She thought the same, though neither said
These words, what could they be taught?
Of the tasks from council, they were afraid
So onward they ploughed, internally fraught.
“Does anybody remember laughter?”
The question asked of them too late:
The scribe had begun a new chapter.
He hoped this ache of guilt would abate
So that he might see the Lady’s white light.
Standing at the mirror, she knew
All her glitter, all her gold would get her what
She wanted. She could wait but through
His singing she saw him on the stairway strut
His rock, his roll, and decided alone he go.

OMW! I love Led Zep and “Stairway to Heaven”!
I especially like the final verse before the last line.
“And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.”
S Franci, thank you for participating in my prompt!

Great song indeed and fabulous lyrics and I love the almost comical version of Plant singing it live… he has fluffy sleeves! 🤣

Yes, the sleeves are strange! He was quite a flamboyant entertainer back then.
